Star Song, my first novel, and most recent accomplishment in writing, is nearing completion. I am proud and excited to announce that this sci-fi epic should be done in the summer. I have been writing this book for a few years now, around other projects, and I'm pretty confident that it's almost where I want it to be now.
I was inspired by Isaac Asimov's Foundation series, as well as Ray Bradbury and Arthur C. Clarke. Most of my fiction up to this point has been horror themed, but my last collection of shorts really gave me a boost in confidence that I could write sci-fi. It's a bit strange crossing these borders for some writers, and I admit I was a bit shaky at first. The path of writing can be a lonely one, and making these decisions feels very personal. You have to wonder: are people going to start judging me in a new way just because I'm writing something else?
I implemented my love of short stories into the creation of this novel. I found that one truism still holds water for me: stick with what you know (and your work with shine because of it).
I have plenty of ideas for future projects, I don't feel like I'll run out of steam anytime soon. I hope my audience enjoys this next work as much as I do!
